Kokoda Here We Come!

Story

The Luke Adams Foundation seeks to reduce anti-social behaviour and violence within our communities. The Foundation operates on the premise that community violence can be prevented and harm minimised, and the belief that we all have the right to feel safe and respected. Preventing community violence is the responsibility of the whole community and requires a shared understanding of the causes of violence and sources of resilience.

The Luke Adams Foundation seeks to reduce these factors that place individuals and communities at risk of community violence and increase those factors that prevent community violence and/or minimise harm. It will do so via:

  • Raising awareness in the community about the prevalence of violence and anti-social behaviour and the need for immediate action
  • Education- delivery of prevention and intervention strategies to schools and sporting clubs/associations
  • Advocacy- lobby for legislative reform & action where necessary
  • Research- advance research where there is a lack of knowledge in relation to addressing casual factors
  • Collaboration & Partnership- achieve economies of scale and mechanisms to use resources more efficiently to produce positive outcomes at a greater scale.

On the 9th October 2012, 30 people will be completing the grueling Kokoda Track to ‘Walk for a Cause’.  The Imotiva: LAF Walk for a Cause provides an opportunity for a group of Australians to walk side by side on the Track. The group is made up of victims of crime, high profile sportsmen, police officers, corporate identities and student leaders; it is a way for members of the community who have had enough to stand together and promote a message of community safety.

Completing the trek will afford a sense of purpose, reflection and mental strengthening that will foster positive pathways back into each individual’s stance in society and everyday life. Completing the Kokoda Track will also be an opportunity to share experiences and develop a network of genuine friendships that will last a lifetime.

Any donation, large or small, made to The Luke Adams Foundation is greatly appreciated and will go directly towards the implementation of education programs to reduce harm in the community.

THE IF FOUNDATION

About the IF Foundation

Overview

Established in 2011, the Foundation was set up by the friends and family of Luke Adams (a prominent WAFL player for Swan Districts Football Club).Luke suffered life threatening head injuries during a night out in Perth. Luke’s story is just one example of the impact of senseless violence and antisocial behaviour in the community. The IF Foundation operates on the premise that community violence is preventable and tackling the issue is the responsibility of the whole community. The foundation’s strategies are strongly guided by the recently released framework developed by ICCWA and North Metropolitan Public Health Unit “Towards a Future Without Violence”

The IF Foundation implements and facilitates programs to shape the future of young West Australian’s.

Our Mission & Values

Our mission is to create stable communities where violence is not perceived as either acceptable or necessary. We will be a leader and catalyst in eradicating violence on our streets working with West Australia’s youth and to shape a bright, positive future them individually and the community at large. We will achieve this by delivering educational based programs, events and advocacy grounded by research and fact based content throughout Western Australia. We will partner with the local community to ensure a safe, friendly and successful program is delivered.
